Danroad's 6 length Northern Hemisphere winner

06/18/2009

Danroad’s 6 length Northern Hemisphere winner

Highview Stud’s young Danehill sire-son, Danroad, gained his first Northern Hemisphere winner yesterday when Farmer Giles (Ire) won a two-year-old maiden over 5 furlongs at the Ripon racecourse in Yorkshire.

It was an emphatic victory with the youngster heading home 14 rivers by six lengths.  The colt, who was bred by the Hong Kong Breeders’ Club, had been twice placed from his previous three starts.

Danroad began a reverse shuttle to the Northern Hemisphere in 2006 and Farmer Giles represents his initial crop.  He has been based at Rathmuck Stud in Ireland for the past three seasons and is due to head back to New Zealand shortly.

The Southern Hemisphere season has been a notable one for Danroad with Rockdale (NZ) winning the BTC Rough Habit Plate-Gr.3 at the Queensland Winter Carnival, while Down the Road (NZ) was a Group Two winner for his sire when taking out the ARC Championship Stakes at the Ellerslie March Carnival.  He went on to run the closest of seconds in the $2.2m Telecom New Zealand Derby-Gr.1 (2400m) behind Coniston Bluebird.

Down the Road is now in Hong Kong.

He is out of quarantine and will be trained by Alex Wong,” Highview Stud’s Brent Gillovic – who is in Hong Kong at the moment – told NZTM today.

There are 4 or 5 Danroads on their way up to Hong Kong including Outtalimitz (Gr.2-placed in Avondale Guineas this season),” added Gillovic.

Rockdale became Danroad’s first Group One winner when winning the QTC T J Smith Classic last season.

To date Danroad has had 17 winners from 36 runners worldwide.  He is the sire of 10 winners in NZ, 3 in Australia, 3 in Korea and now one in the United Kingdom.
